So my husband and I love exploring our city and finding new places to have those long, lazy lunches in the sun. We just love a good a vibe, from fine dining to cute little spots with a super chilled atmosphere. It really doesn’t have to be an expensive – it just needs to have great food, great cocktails and tons of photo opps for me.
So imagine my excitement when I stumbled upon an Instagram post on a new Cuba- inspired restaurant, The Royale, which had just opened in Craighall Park, my old varsity neighbourhood by the way. We tried it out and it totally exceeded our expectations!
You first get knocked out by the décor which is a feast for the eyes, it just gobbles you up and takes you to a little Cuban town. The outdoor area gave me Brooklyn feels and after we chatted to the owner he mentioned he was inspired by both Brooklyn’s party scene and Cuba. He’s also the owner of Great Dane if you’ve ever been.
I again, wore one of my favourite items right now – my denim shorts – which I must warn you I’ll be abusing throughout summer 2017. Don’t say I didn’t warn you, I just haven’t ever had a pair of shorts fit me so well and be so comfortable. I opted for a chilled simple outfit and these cute espadrilles I got on Spree.
The whole feel of the restaurant, the music, the food, the VIBE is exactly what Joburg needs, something different and authentic. Go as soon as you can!
