We’re halfway through the year and I often feel like I need to re-charge to the same level of vigour and zest for life I had at the outset of the year.
For me, from a personal perspective, 2018 has been about leaning more into who I am and what my purpose on this beautiful planet of ours is, but it’s also been about seeking authenticity in the various areas of my life. I have very little tolerance for negativity, being unsure of people’s purpose in my life, i.e. friends. I need to know we love and support each other or we don’t. It’s all good if we don’t – let’s just be real about it.
I’m also committed to building my businesses, my blog and Youtube channel and a network of people who are supportive of one another’s life’s ventures. Guys, honestly, is there time for any uncertainty right now in life?!
So what I do is listen to my favourite greats. People like Steve Jobs, Marianne Williamson, Oprah, JK Rowling, Gabrielle Bernstein to name a few. I also meditate and pray a lot for guidance – meditation just soothes my soul.
Anyway, so last year on a weekly basis, I tried to listen to Oprah’s commencement address at Spelman College in order to keep her wonderful gems of advise top of mind in my daily life. One of my favourite lines from her address was when she reminded the class that their ancestors had already paved the way before them, saying, “Your crown has been paid for, put it on your head and wear it.”
Oprah’s a quotable machine but here are some of my favourites:
- Know who you are and what you want.
- You have to have a vision for your life, even if you don’t have a plan.
- Find a way to serve. Greatness is determined by service.
- Always do the right thing. Be excellent, let excellence be your brand.
- Surround yourself with people who are accustomed to success. People who want the best for you.
If we can all attempt to live by these points, I think we’ll all be better off. Here’s to spending the rest of 2018 living for our dreams folks!
