10 Fitness Mantras to keep every girl on Track

With us suffering through winter right now, getting myself to the gym has become a chore of great proportions. I’m not the fittest of the bunch but I do enjoy being active and keeping my body lean and mean. I’ve also found that being active helps with my diet, I eat healthier when I’m active because a girl can’t be losing out the gains made. Gains amp me up so hard, I even forget that bread exists, and that’s one helluva thing for me to forget – bread, all types of bread – is a weakness that one day I will overcome. For now though, I’m gonna give you guys some mantras that light a fire under my bum whenever I fall off the proverbial wagon.

  1. YOU CAN START OVER: You don’t have to wait for Monday or the mystical land of “tomorrow” to start exercising again – do it today. Stop gulping down on that cuppa tea or coffee – switch back to warm lemon water now. Take baby steps, but start now.
  2. WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE QUITTING, REMEMBER WHY YOU STARTED: It’s so easy for life to happen – work, meetings, school runs, household chores – but when you’re tired, remember the progress you’ve made and keep that in mind.
  3. WE’RE CREATURES OF HABIT: What helps me is going to the gym at the same time everyday because that’s the time I’ve set aside for it. If I happen to wake up lazy that morning, I know that if I push it out to later on that day, it’s most likely never going to happen. So try sticking to the same time everyday.
  4. I WILL GET THERE: Consistency is key and I always tell myself to strive for progress and not perfection – I’m not trying to be a body builder ya know. And they say it takes four weeks to see your body changing, eight weeks for friends and family to see it and twelve weeks for the rest of the world. After that you just keep maintaining your hard work.
  5. FITNESS FEELS GOOD: I’ve never left the gym grumpy. I might walk through those turnstiles without a smile on my face, but I walk out on such a high that I can’t believe that I almost denied myself this great, energised feeling.
  6. A NATURAL HIGH: When we exercise, our body releases chemicals called endorphins. These endorphins interact with the receptors in our brains that reduce our perception of pain. Endorphins trigger a positive feeling in the body, similar to that of morphine. Get that natural high at the gym y’all.
  7. BECAUSE YOU LOVE YOURSELF: Work out because you love your body and you want to take care of it not because you hate it. Reward your body with health, don’t operate from a place of negativity – it will not last.
  8. BODY POSITIVITY: I do it to really feel good about myself. I enjoy the lightness that comes with living healthy, I just feel so good in my body. I also do it for the satisfaction, the crop tops, the skinny jeans, the confidence, the short shorts and above all, for my happiness.
  9. PUSH BEYOND YOUR LIMITS: Be the girl who decided to go for it, push beyond what you thought your limitations were and watch yourself thrive.
  10. TAKE YOUR TIME: Fitness is a journey. It’s a lifestyle change and one that you switch to because you’ve come to realise that diets alone do not work. I needed an overhaul on my views on food and fitness in order to completely immerse myself into this new way of life and I’m not looking back. I’m going to take my time, competing only with myself and where I was yesterday. I suggest you try it, keeping in mind we’re all on different journeys and will not be at the same ‘pit-stops’ on this journey, but as long as we keep at it, I’m good!
